The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has recently given a go ahead to a detailed report of a 3-km railway approach line connecting New Dadri Dedicated Freight Corridor station to the upcoming multimodal logistics hub of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
This rail project, estimated at INR 858-crore falls under the framework of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and aims at establishing a multimodal logistics hub in Dadri and thereby facilitating the seamless movement of goods and raw materials from Greater Noida to Gujarat, Kolkata and Mumbai within 24 hours.
At present, due to the absence of any such infrastructure, transportation of cargo between the cities take anywhere between 4-5 days.
DECCIL, which will develop the track, will soon be in a look out for a contractor by issuing a tender.
Situated in Dadri across 823 acres of land, the multimodal logistic hub is proposed to serve as a state-of-the-art freight handling unit. The logistics hub is estimated to be developed at a cost of INR 7,034 crore. It will be equipped with advanced warehouses, custom clearance points, rail platforms, cold storage facilities, truck parking bays, and cargo separation areas. The rail yards at the hub will have 16 platforms to allow industries to speedily upload or offload cargo into the freight trains.
The Integrated Industrial Township Greater Noida Limited which has collaborated with DMIC for the development of this logistic hub, is currently in the process of hiring a project consultant to oversee the tender preparation and construction monitoring.
“Acquisition of land for the logistics hub project is almost complete,” Greater Noida CEO Ritu Maheshwari, who is also the managing director of DMIC-IITGNL, said.
As part of the project, a multimodal transport hub (MMTH) will also be set up near Boraki.
Currently, the process of securing a consultant for the project has been initiated. The transport hub will integrate railway, bus stand and metro connectivity.
The Greater Noida railway terminal in Boraki on the Delhi Howrah railway line will most likely alleviate pressure on existing terminals in Delhi and primarily cater to eastbound trains to eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and other states.
