In a significant move towards bolstering the UAE’s role in global food supply chains, Etihad Cargo, Abu Dhabi Airports, and Abu Dhabi Food Hub have inked a tri-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create the ‘Fresh Corridor 2.0.’ This collaborative initiative aims to establish a fully compliant and transparent perishable air corridor, fostering diversification of food sources, creating new trade corridors, and enriching the variety of products available for regional consumers.
The partnership sets the stage for Abu Dhabi to become a pivotal node in global food supply chains, emphasizing a robust ecosystem for food trading and investment. This involves the development of advanced infrastructure, access to regional consumer markets, and reliable worldwide logistics and connectivity.
The ‘Fresh Corridor 2.0’ agreement represents a synergy of expertise among the three entities, encompassing knowledge exchange in handling, storage, logistics, food safety, and hygiene. By addressing evolving demands in the food trade, the collaboration pledges to engage with government stakeholders, facilitators, and key contributors from the food ecosystem, ensuring a seamless trade experience.
Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, Antonoaldo Neves, expressed the airline’s commitment to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051, emphasizing the role of Etihad Cargo in supporting the launch of the Abu Dhabi Food Hub at KEZAD. Neves highlighted the strategic significance of the expanded infrastructure, positioning Abu Dhabi as a key hub in the Middle East connecting to the global market.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Interim CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, underscored the collective proposition to facilitate two-way food trade between the UAE and the rest of the world. She sees the launch of the ‘Fresh Corridor 2.0’ as a pivotal step towards diversification and growth of imports and exports, contributing to the commercial development of Abu Dhabi as a global food center.
Suresh Vaidhyanathan, CEO of Abu Dhabi Food Hub, emphasized the agreement’s testament to their commitment to developing and operating the food hub as a global leader.
